A RESOLUTION TO APPROVE TH�
NEWSLETTER POLICY
WHEREAS, the City of Fair-fax, Iowa pi-oduces a inonthly llewsletter called the FaiT-fax
FACTS; and
WHEREAS, the City of FairfaX, Iowa, has drafted and had the city attorney review tlie
attached Newsletter Policy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Fairfax,
Fairfax, Iowa, that they adopt the attached Newsletter Policy.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Fairfax City Council of the City of Fairfax, Iowa,
that the Mayor and City Clerk/Treasurer are hereby directed to certify this resolution of approval.

NEWSLETTER POLICY
The City of Fairfax issues a monthly newsletter to keep residents informed of the City of
Fairfax activities and upcoming matters. This includes Ininutes fi-om the City Council and
other boards and commissions, public hearing notices, city event schedule, rate change
information, solid waste schedule, and city department notices.
The following may be submitted by private persons and private entities for publication in
the newsletter:
• Fait-fax area non-profit organizations may submit announcements fo1- upcoming
events for publication without charge.
• Fairfax area businesses and residents may submit advertisements, soliciting lawful
commercial or economic transactions, for publication at a chat�ge set by the City
Council.
• Political candidates (or their campaign committee) who are seeking government
offices for which Fairfax residents may vote may submit campaign advei�tisements
at a charge set by the City Council.
The City of Fairfax will not allow the following types of submissions for the newsletter:
• Opinions.
• Characterizations of facts or alleged facts.
• Matters that do not relate to future events or transactions.
• Matters that are not reasonably considered to be of general public interest.
The City of Fairfax staff and/or mayor shall make the determination if an item will or will
not be allowed according to this policy. If someone does not agree with this
determination, they may request to be placed on a city council agenda to appeal this
determination to the City Council during a city council meeting.
