HomeMy WebLinkAboutRESOLUTION NO. 2014-74 RESOLUTION NO. 2014-74 RESOLUTION TO APPROVE CHANGE ORDER NO. 2 FROM RATHJE CONSTRUCTION, CO. FOR THE PHASE 2 FAST CEMETERYROAD STREET RECONSTRUCTION, TRAIL,AND DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT IN THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, LINN COUNTY,IOWA WHEREAS, the City Council of Fairfax, Iowa has contracted with Rathje Construction Co. for the Phase 2 East Cemetery Road Street Reconstruction, Trial, and Drainage Improvements Project within the corporate limits; and WHEREAS, Hall and Hall Engineers, Inc., has "recommended approval of Change Order#2 for a contract increase of$280.28, as described below: CHANGES IN SCHEDULE: None at this time, CHANGES IN CONTRACT,MOUNT: ITEM #2.1: ADD NEW BID—Install Property Owner Supplied Rebar The contract documents specify thickness of'drives based on Cedar Rapids Metro Standard Details, which does not specify rebar be placed in the pavement. The property owner at Royale Pools and Storage Garages requested rebar be placed in their three (3) drives, if they supplied it. There is additional time and effort for the contractor to place the rebar. This item is a Lump Sum item in the amount of$475. ITEM #2.2: ADD NEW B,ID—Construct Drives per SUDAS Specifications The drive reconstructions were all specified per Cedar Rapids Metro Standard Details and Specifications. The Statewide Urban Design Standards (SUDAS) has recently changed their standard detail to thicken the edge of the drive to match the street pavement (8" thick). Cedar Rapids Metro Specifications do not thicken the edge of the drive. This item is to be measured and paid by the area (SY) in the amount of $3.25 per SY to construct all 5" and 6"thick drives per SUDAS specifications, ITEM #2.3: CREDIT— Rock in Storm Sewer Trench (East Swale) The plans called for the dual 15" storm sewer pipes to be 5' apart (centerline to centerline) along the east swale through the Arp's property. The Contractor requested the pipe be moved closer together (up to 1' separation between pipes). This would not require as much dirt excavation and less rock backfill resulting in a cost savings in the amount of$32.00 per CY with an estimated quantity of 114.96 CY. BE IT FURTHER, RESOLVED, by the Fairfax City Council of the City of Fairfax, Iowa, that the Mayor and City Clerk/Treasurer are hereby authorized and directed to execute said resolution.
