RESOLUTION ESTABLISHING RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY
WIDTHS IN THE CITY OF FAIRFAX, LINN COUNTY, IOWA
WHEREAS, the City of Fairfax intends to establish driveway width standards for
all new residential construction in Fairfax, Iowa
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Iowa, the following:
SECTION 1. DRIVEWAY/SIDEWALK STANDARDS.
1. These standards are applicable to the legal ROW adjacent to each lot. All existing
driveways shall not be affected by these standards.
2. Residential lots with sixty (60) feet or less of street frontage shall have a
maximum of twenty-four (24) feet driveway width at the curb cut.
3. Residential lots over sixty (60) feet of street frontage shall have a maximum of
thirty-six (36) feet driveway width at the curb cut.
4. Residential lots over one hundred (100) feet of street frontage shall have a
maximum of forty-eight (48) feet driveway width at the curb cut.
5. All approaches shall have a five (5) inch minimum depth and be concrete.
6. All sidewalk shall be five (5) feet in width minimum and comply with SUDAS
and/or ADA Curb Design and Work Zone Accessibility Standards.
7. Commercial and business property that propose widths that differ from these
standards shall submit driveway design plans to the Planning and Zoning
Commission and City Council for approval.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the Fairfax City Council of the City of
Fairfax, Iowa, that the Mayor and City Clerk/Treasurer are hereby authorized and
directed to execute said resolution.
