June 20, 1944.
The Council of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa met in
special session this 20th day of June at 1. P. M.
The Mayo', called the meeting to order at 1 P. M.
and councilmen present were : C. J. Knickerbocker,
C. J. Dvorak and Frank Moynihan.
Councilment absent were: C. E. Heaton & Um. E. Dvorak.
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and
approved.
Applications for cigarette permits were read from
Mrs Emma Boland, Edgar Firkins and James Yanecek.
It was raved by Councilman C. J. Knickerbocker,
seconded by Frank Moynihan and unanimously carried that
the cigarette permits for the applicants be renewed upon
payment of the regular fee and filing of proper bond.
Application of Emma Boland for renewal of beery(
permit was read and it as moved by Chas J. Dvorak,
seconded by C. J . Knickerbocker and unanimously carried
to renew the Emma Boland Beer permit upon filing of
proper bond and paying fee of $100.00.
Bill from Concrete Materials & Construction Company
for $25. 31 for two loads of chips was read and it was
moved by Chas J. Dvorak, Seconded by Frank Moynihan that
the bill be allowed and paid.
The matter of issuing permit to the Concrete
Materials & Construction Company was discussed and it was
Aixxxxxxi decided to take no action on the matter until
the Clerk had time to obtain from Cedar Rapids some in-
formation regarding their ordnance and perhaps obtain a
copy of their ordnance. During the discussion regarding
the permit for the Concrete Materials and construction
Company J . L. Krall, Cashier of the Fairfax State Savings
Bank informed the members present that the next day after
the first dynamite blast was set off the water at the well
at the bank became unfit for use and that this same thing
happened on two occasions previously when blasting was
done at the quarry. Krill further informed the members
present that unless some regulations were made whereby
the size of the charge, and other regulations were placed
into effect and if further damage to private property was
done the town might be called upon to pay for said damages.
There being no further business to come before the
meeting it was moved by C. J. Knickerbocker, seconded by
Chas J. Dvorak and unanimously carried to adjourn.
