HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/01/1946 Council Minutes 136 April 1, 1946 Now, TO-WIT: this 1st day of April, 1946, at the hour of twelve o ' clock noon, the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax, Linn County, Iowa, as duly elected, assembled for the purpose of organization under the provisions of Chapter 287 of the Code of Iowa, of 1935. The Town Clerk, J. L. Krall, administered the oath to John Lefebure, the duly elected Mayor. Mayor, John Lefebure, the administered the oath to C. J. Knickerbocker, Wm. E. Dvorak, Frank L. Barta and Chas A. Elson. It was moved, seconded and carried, that this meeting recess until 7 : 30 P. M. of this date and to re- assemble in the office of the Fairfax State Savings Bank, Fairfax, Iowa. Now, TO-WIT; this 1st day of April, 1946 at the hour of 7 : 30 P. M. the said Council of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa did re-assemble, there being present all members of said Countil. Mayor, John Lefebure, administered the oath to Chas J. Dvorak, councilman elect/. The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and it was moved by Chas A. Elson, seconded by C. J. Xi icker- bocker, and unanimously carried to approve the minutes as read. It was moved by C. J. Dvorak, Seconded by Frank L Barta and unanimously carried to approve the bond of Mayor John Lefebure and to place said bond in safe keeping with Town Clerk, J. L. Krall. The Mayor announced the following appointments. For Town Clerk J. L. Krall For Town Marshal C. L. McCaughey For Fire Chief Chas J. Dvorak For Street Commissioner James Yanecek. It was moved by C. J. Knickerbocker, seconded by Frank L. Barta and unanimously carried to approve the appointments made by Mayor, John Lefebure. 137 April 1, 1946 It was moved by Chas A. Elson, seconded by Wm. E. Dvorak, and unanimously carried "That the Fairfax State Savings Bank, be and hereby designated depository for funds of the Town of Fairfax, Iowaand that E. F. Listebarger, Treasurer of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa is hereby authorized to deposit funds of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa in said Fairfax State Savings Bank in sums totaling in the aggregate not to exceed $5, 000.00. The report of Fire Chief, Chas J. Dvorak, for the past year was approved. The report of Town Treasurer, '1. F. Listebarger, for the past year was approved. The council sitting as a board of review examined the books of Assessor, James Yanecek, and same were approved. It was moved by C. J. Dvorak, seconded by Frank L. Barta and unanimously carried that the Council meet regularly on the First Monday of each month at 7: 30 P. M. at the offices of the Fairfax State Savings Bank. It was moved by Councilman C. J. Knickerbocker, seconded by Wm. E. Dvorak, and unanimously carried to fix the Town Clerk ' s salary at $100.00 per year for the ensuing two years. It was moved by Wm. E. Dvorak, seconded by Chas A. Elson and unanimously carried to pay the Mayor $1. 50 per meeting for the ensuing two years. It was moved by C. J . Dvorak, seconded by Frank L. Barta and unanimously carried to fix the &oe,w _°` s salary at $12.00 per year for the ensuing two years. rICA~E'" It was moved by Chas A. Elson, Seconded by C. J . Knickerbocker and unanimously carried to pay the fire chief a salary of $36.00 per year for the ensuing two years. The mayor appointed C. J. Knickerbocker, Wm. E. Dvorak and Chas A. Elson to the Street and Alley Committee. It was moved,by Wm. E. Dvorak, seconded by C. J . Knickerbocker and unanimously carried to pay C. L. McCaughey, Town Marshall, $60.00 for services for the past year. It was moved by Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by C. J . Knicker- bocker and unanimously carried that we discontinue the practise of hoisting the flag each day but to do so only on special days. It was Moved by C. J. Knickerbocker, seconded by Chas J . Dvorak and unanimously carried that the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to write a letter to the Executive Secretary of' Cedar Rapids Community War Chest, stating that this Council 138 April 1, _946 recommends and approves paying to J. L. Krall, Secretary- Treasurer of the Fairfax American Legion Postwar Project all overages in the National War Fund belonging to Fairfax. There bring no further business it was moved by C. J.
