July 7, 1947
Regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town of Fairfax,
Iowa held this 7th day of July, 1947.
The meeting was called to order at 8 P. M. by Mayor John
Lefebure:
Councilmen present: Chas A. Elson, Frank L. Barta, Chas J.
Dvorak and John E. Uurphy. Councilman Chas J. Knickerbocker
was absent.
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read and approved.
It was moved by Councilman, Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by Councilman
Chas A. Elson and unanimously carried to pay the annual dues
of $15.00 to the League of Iowa Municipalities.
Claire J. Stallman appeared before the Council with a request
that something be done to prevent transient peddlers, persons
who are not taxpayers of the Town of Fairfax, from selling
and delivering various merchandise from house to house in
Fairfax. It was decided that the Clerk was to write to the
Secretary of the League of Iowa Municipalities for copy of
an ordinance covering the situation and that the matter be
taken up at a later meeting.
It was moved by Councilman John E. Murphy, Seconded by
Councilman Chas A. Elson and unanimously carried that a light
be installed outside above the Fire Station door and that the
Clerk be and is hereby authorized to employ Ernest Buresh to
install said light.
It was moved by Councilman John E. Murphy, Seconded by Council-
man Frank L. Barta and unanimously carried that the Clerk be and
is hereby authorized to purchase thru the Iowa Mutual Liability
Insurance Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa Public Liability of
$10,000.00 and $20,000.00 and Property Damage insurance of
$5,000.00 on the Fire Truck and also to purchase Workmen' s
Compensation Insurance covering the members of the Fairfax
Volunteer Fire Department and any other employees of the Town.
It was moved by Councilman Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by councilman
John E. Murphy and unanimously carried that the Clerk be and is
hereby authorized and instructed to write to the Iowa Electric
Light and Power Company of Cedar Rapids, Iowa regarding the
possibility of securing better service and to enquire as to
the transmission line which was promised and which was to be
built from the sub-station near Hawkeye Dows to Fairfax.
There being no further business it was moved, seconded and
carried to adjourn.
