i of twelve o ' clock noon, the Ton Council of the Town of Fairfax,
Linn County, Iowa, as duly elected, assembled for the purpose
of organization as provided for under the provisions of the
Iowa Statute.
The Torn Clerk, J. L. Kral,l, administered the oath of
office to John Lefebure, the duly elected Mayor.
Mayor, Join Lefebure, then administered the oath of
office to Chas J. Dvorakq John Fa Muephy, how rd V. Steinmentz,
Win.ford W. Wims and Wm. F. Zamastil.
Beer
Application for Class B./Permit by dm. C. Dunlap and
Johns T. Miller under the firm name of Dunlap and biller was
read and it was roved by Charles J. Dvorak, seconded by Howard.
V. Steinmetz and unanimously carried that the Class B. permit
be issued to Dunlap and Miller upon filing of pooper bond and
payment of the $150.010 fee.
Application for Cigarette permit by Wm. C. Dunlap and
John T. Miller, under the firm name of Dunlap and Buller was
read and it was moved by John Murphy, seconded by Wm. F.
Zamastil, and unanimously carried to issue the cigarette permit
to Dunlap and Miller upon filing of proper brand and payment
of the statutory fee..
It was moved by Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by John E.
Murphy, and unanimously carried that this meeting recess until
8 P. M. of this date and to reassemble in the Fairfax State

Now, TO-T7IT: this 5th day or April, 1948, at the hoar
of 8 P. M. the said council of the Town of Fairfax, Iona did
re-assemble, there being present all members of said council.
It was moved by Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by Vm. F.
Zamastil, and unanimously carried that the bond of Mayor,
John Leefebure, be and is hereby approved..
. It was moved by Vim. F. Zamastil, seconded by Ho yard
V. Steinmetz, and unanimously carried that J. L. Krall, be
and is hereby appointed Torun Clerk for the ensuing term of
two years..
The minutes of the meeting of March 30, 1948 were read
and approved.

Minutes of April 5, 1948 continued -
Ray Crowell appeared before the Council with complaints
as follows:
1. Objection to Strang' s, Inc. trucks being parked
around the building and on the sidewalks while loading and
unloading meat products . Claimed the streets were blocked
and a hazard created.
2. Gbjecteld to permitting Strang' s wash their trucks
on the streets (daily) with water running down the street.
Because of the plant operations blood covered the
streets in places at times.
4. Claimed that bones from the plant were being tossed
out to dogs and the dogs carried the bones around the town.
5. Claimed that his neighbors, the Nekkindas, were
pouring slpp on the ground approximately 30 feet from
Crowell' s well.
6. Slaimed that the Galbrecht family used a cheemical
indoor toilet and that they emptied same on the garden across
from the Crowell home and that toilet paper was carried away
by the wind, etc.
The objections were noted and the council agreed that
same ,�jould be looked into and if corrections were needed
action would be taken.
. It was moved by Howard V. Steinmetz, seconded by
W. W. Wims, and unanimously carried that the salary of the
Town Clerk for the ensuing two years be $150.00 per year.
The Mayor announced the following appointments:

Members of the Fairfax Fire Department in addition
to Chas J . Dvorak and John E. Murphy:

Chas J. Boland, Ralph Emanuel, Jack Neuhaus, W. W. Wims,
Howard Steinmetz
,, Raymond hlizuer, Franklin J. Karal, Lloyd
J. Lfifebure, Vim. Michalek and Bernard W. Stallman.
It was moved by Wm. F. Zamastil, seconded by Hotrard
Steinmetz, and unanimously carried that all of the above
mentioned appointments be and they are hereby approved.

It was moved by Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by John E.
Murphy and unanimously carried that the Fairfax State Savings
Dank, be and is hereby designated depositary for funds of the
Town of Fairfax, Iowa and that E. F. Listebarger, Treasurer
of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa is hereby authorized to deposit
funds of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa in said Fairfax State
Savings Barak in sums totaling in the ag regate not to exceed
5,000.00.
It was moved by Howard S#einmtetz, seconded by W. W.
Wims and unanimously carried that the Report of Fire Chief,
Chas J. Dvorak, be and is hereby approved.
It was moved by John Uurphy, seconded by lam. F. Zamasti.l
and unanimously carried that the report of Town Treasurer,
E. F. Listebarger be and is hereby approved.
It -Fas moved by toward. Steinmetz, seconded by W. W.
Wimis and unanimously carried that the regular meetings of
this Council be held on the first Monday of each month at
S P. M. and that the regular meeting place be at the offices
of the Fairfax State Savings Bank, in Fairfax, Iowa.
I.t was moved by Chas J . Dvorak, seconded by Howard
Steinmetz, and unanimously carried that the treasurer' s
salary be $12.00 per year for the coming two years.
It was moved by Howard Steinmetz, seconded by W. W.
Wims and unanimously carried that the Fire Chief' s salary
be faxed at $60.00 per year fro the coming two years and
that he continue to see that the truck is in condition and
!I attend to the heating; of the building.

It was moved by Wm. F. Zarma,stil, seconded by John Murphy
and unanimously carried to pay the Marshal a salary of $120.00
per year.
Letters were read from the Iona Road Building Company
and Concrete Materials & Construction Company regarding prices,,
etc. in connection with the possibility of servicing the
streets a--ain, in 1943. It was agreed that special meeting
could be held in the near future if and when a representativ
of the Iowa Road Builders called.
