Regular meeting of the Town Council of the Town
of Fairfax, Iowa held this 6th day of June, 1949.
It was moved, seconded and carried that John
E. Murphy, serve as xx presiding officer over this
meeting.
Councilmen Presnet® Chas J. Dvorak, John E. Murphy,
Bogard. Steinmetz, W. Oil. Wims and Vim. F. Zama.stil.
The minutes of the preceeding meeting were read
and approved.
It was moved,, seconded and unanimously carried
that John E. Murphy be elected Mayor to serve the un-
expired ter of mayor John Lef ebure, deceased.
The bond of $500.00 by John E. Murphy was approved
and the oath of office was issued to the newly elected
mayor by Town Clerk, J. L. Krall.
Statement from the League of Iowa Municipalities
in the sum of $15.00 for dues for the year beginning
Aug. 1, 1949 was read and it was moved, seconded and
carried that sate be paid.
Alvan F: Schley appeared before the council in
the interest of having Park street opened south from I
Church street to connect with the road some 600 feet
further south. It was expected that Frank Hasley and
M. C.J. Koch would also be present but they failed to
appear; they being interested parties in property to
be effected if the street is opened. The matter was
discussed and the Town Clerk agreed to write to the
League of Iowa tMunicipalities to determine what was
regular proceed:ure in such cases.

firms and persons were read:
Dunlap & bliller, Emma & Charles Boland, Raymond Probst,,
Lorrine
It was moved, seconded and unanimously tarred that
the permits be issued upon filing of proper bond and pay-
ment of the regular $50.00 fee.
Application for renewal of Class B beer permit
was read Ror Emma and Charles Boland and it was moved,
seconded and carried that same be issued upon filing of
proper bond and payment of the $150.00 license.

It was moved by ,Howard. Steinmetz, seconded by W. W.
Wins and unanimously carried to elect A:ndreff G. Miller a
councilman to fill the unexpired term of councilman Jahn
E. Murphy who had been elected Mayor.

Town Clem , J. L. gall, issued the oath to nearly
elected Councilman. Andress G. ,df,ller who took his place
at the council tables
The following resolution was introduced and passed
unanimously:
WHEREAS, in the exercise of a. divine wisdom which
surpasses all human understanding, the Supreme Ruler of
the universe has seen fit to remove from, among us our
esteemed and beloved associate and friend., Mayor JOHN
LEFEBURE, and to call him forever from labor to rest,
and,
WHEREAS,, henceforth we shall miss his kindly greetings,
his friendly presence? his valued counsel and advice, and
while we mourn with his loved ones, his earthly departure,
and deeply regret his final absence, vie bow in submission
to the will of Gard who does all things wisely and wellp
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Town Council of the
Torn of Fairfax, Iowa that we sincerely regret the passing
of our associate and friend, JOH9 LEF'EBURE„ that his absence
from all future meetings is a lass which we sincerely feel;;
that a place is vacant its our midst which never can 'be filled;
and we hav su.stained a loss which can never be restored, and:,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of these Resolutions
be spread on the permanent records of the Town. of Fairfax,
Iowa, in memoriama and that a copy be sent to the family of
him who has left us, as a token of our esteem and respect.
