October 1 , 1952
-Regular, meeting of the Town Council of the
town of Fairfax, Iowa.
The meeting was called to order at 8: 25 P. X.
by Mayor Franklin J. Karal.
Councilmen present : Andrew G. Killer, Howard
Steinmetz, Wm. F. Zamastil.
Councilmen absent : Chas J. Dvorak.
The minutes of the preceedin g meet-ing were read
and approved.
The resignation of councilman nford W. Wims
eras ; said councilman having moved from Fairfax to
Cedar Rapids . It was moved by Andrew G. Miller,
seconded by Howard Steinmetz and unanimously carried
"to accept the resignation .
CouL-icilman Andrew G. N ller nominated Raymond
D. Nizner° for councils an to succeed Winford W. Wims.
Several rather persons were mentioned as possible
successors to Winford W. Wims . Mayor r Karat, asked
for further nominations and there were note. The
Mayor then called for a vote on Raymond D. Mi ner° .
for Councilman and he was unanimously elected.
The following bills were read: $37 .50 firs Paula
Mason, Cigarette License refund: $60.00 Marshalls
salary for dame, July & August ; $30.80 Ia. hl. Lt . a
Power Co; $2.49 Matt Parrott & Sons Co. , ; $33.45
Men 's Refor tatiory; $1.44 C. & N . W. $30.80
Ia. Fl., Lt . & Power Co. ; $18.62 Ia. Nat . _ act . Ins . Co .
$29;50 W. W. Wiens ; $10.00 Nat . Surety Corp.
It was rod ged, seconded and unanimously carried
that the bill.s be allowed and warrants #50 to #60 inc-
lusive issued in payment of same be approved.

The Treasurer 's report showing a balance of
$3, 533 .32 aggregate in all funds was presented.
It was moved by Howard Steinmetz, seconded by
Andrew C. miller and unanimously carried that Town
Clerk, J.L. rail, be and is heteby authorized to
purchaser an oil burner for the Fire Station.
October 1, 1952 continued
letter which was received 5evrl mo;.ths agcy from the
Town of Norway relative to charges to be made by their �
Fare Department for aid to members having paid to the �
Fire 'frock Fund of Fairfax was read and much discussion
followed . It was moved, seconded and unanimously
carried that Town Clerk, J.L.Krall for word to Norway,
Atkins, Ely, Swisher and Amana a lietter asking that
they Mayor, Fire Chief and .Assistant ssistan.t Fire Chiif of each
of these towns at and a meeting to be hell with the
Fairfax Town Coon :i1 on the evening of October 15th
at 8 ° 1 -to dusc ss the ratter of reciprocal
change of help by the departments if called by
one or the other of said departments.
Claire J. Sta lman appeared before the Council
it
to discuss the matter of placing some crushed rock
on the alley beginning at the Fire Station and con
tinning east approximately 120 :feet . lie reported
that he had discussed the matter withlirs Kesley
Ander.ly, owner of the property on the north side
of the ally .and reported she had no objections
if the rock was placed there without cost to her.
It was moved by lqm. F. Zamastil, seconded
by Steinmetz, and unanimously carried that the
said Claire. . Stallman be permitted to pace
rock surfacing on said alley--same to be done
at his expense,
The matt r,-,.o ' _children riding bycicles at night
without lights or reflectors on their bycicles and also
riding on sidegalks somewhat recklessly was discussed
and it was agreed that Howard Steinmetz would request
that this matter be to en p with the children in
the F'airfa p blic School end Mayor Franklin J. Karal
was to discuss the ratter with the =Rev. B. L. Nhite
and request that the matter be brought up at the
St ® Patrick 's school and also in the church.
There being no further business it was moved,
seconded and carried to adjourn.
