The town council of the town of Fairfax, Linn County, Iowa
met at 11 o 'clock A.M. on this, the 2nd day of January, 1954®
Present were Joseph Petrzelkag Mayor°, and the following ..
oun .il.men® Chas J. Dvorak, Andrew G. Miller, Howard V. Stein
mutt and Wm. F. Zama ti_l.
Absent was councilman Raymond Mizner.
The Town Clerk presented to the 'down Council the Bond
and Latta of ayor elect ,Joseph P trz lka, which bond and oath
were filed in his office on November 79 1953
The town clerk reported that councilman Raymond Kizner
took the oath on December 319 1.953 at 1:3a P', . . ince he could
not be present at this meeting at this time,
The mayor, Joseph P tr elk ., repeated the oath which he
had previously taken and which was taken and filed on December.
7, 1953 ; said oath being administered by Clem, J. L. Knall.
The Clerk issued the oath to the four councilmen that �
were present ; vie; Chas J. Dvorak, Andrew G. Miller, Howard
V. Steinmetz, and Wa. F, Zaa a til®
It was moved by Chas J. Dvorak, seconded by Howard V.
Steinmetz and unanimously carried that this meeting recess
until. Wednesday, January 6th at 7 .30 P.M.
Now on this 5th day of January, 1954 this council dad
reassemble , the Mayor and all councilmen being present.
The minutes of the previous meeting, said meeting having
b:eenX held December 2 , 1953 , were read and approved.
The Mayor, Joseph P tr elka, presented the name of a L.
rail for 'down Clerk, and it was moved by Chas J. Dvorak,
seconded by Howard Steinmetz, and unanimously carried that
J. L. Krall be appointed Town Clerk®
It was moved by o%
Tar . Stei nmetzg seconded by lam. F.
Zarastil, and unanimously carried that the Town Clerk's Salary
by $175 .00 per year.
It was moved by Howard Steinmetz, seconded by Andrew Mil ler
and unanimously carried that Edna Delany be appointed Town Treasurer
for the s
suing er°m of two y ar5.
It was moved by Raymond Miznerg seconded by Chas J. Dvorak,
and unanimously carried that the Town Treasurer's salary be $50.00
per year.

Xarshalq C. L. McCaughey was present and read his report Xt
which report was very s much in detail, and it was moved,xxx=xt
by Howard Steinmetz, seconded by Chas J. Dvorak that the re-
port be approved and placed on file.
Mayor Joseph Petrzelka announced the appointment of
C. L. McCaughey as Town Marshal,
It was moved by Raymond D. Mizner, seconded by Howard
teinmetzg arid, unanimously carried that the Marshal 's salary

be $40.00 per month,
it was moved by Howard Steinmetz, seconded by Andrew
G. Miller and unanimdusly carried that the following persons
be approved as officers and members of the Fairfax Fire
Department
Charles J. Dvorak, chief; Raymond D. Ninner, Ass 't.
Chief; Silvia Schulteg ass1t. Chief; John L. Neuhaus ,
Secretary-Ti-easurer: ' and other membeves: Andrew G. Miller,
Franklin J. Karal, Donald W. Hall, Robert Geesman, Charles
J. Boland, Ernest F. Listebargerg John E. Hurphyp Howard
V. Steinmetz, and Ralph Emanuel
It was moved by Howard Steinmetz, seconded by Raymond
D. Mizner and unanimously carried that Warren C. Ackley be
appointed To Attoey,
It was moved by Howard Steinmetzp seconded by Wm. F.
Zamastilp and unanimously carried that Fire Chief, Charles
J. Dvorakv be paid $60.00 per year for looking after the
matter of weekly service to the Fire Truck and care of
the heating of the buildings etc,,
It was moved by Howard Steinmetz; seconded by Raymond
D. Minner, and unanimously carried that the Fairfax State
Savings Hank, be and is hereby designated depositary for
funds of the Town of Fairfax, Iowa and that Edna DeLanyq
treasurer of said twwn of Fairfax is hereby authorized to
deposit funds of' the Town of Fairfax, Iowa in said Fairfax
State Savings Bank in sums totaling in the aggregate not
to exceed $19;000600®
it was moved by Andt-ew Miller, seconded by Howard
Steinmetzg and unanimously carried that the regular meetings
of the Town Council be held at the Fairfax State Savin. 's
bank at 7 :30 o 'clock P.M. on the first Wednasday of
each month.
The treasurer's report showing a total of funds
on had of $6,694.03; and it was moved, seconded and carried
that the Treasurer 's report be approved,
