R al ar° meeting of the to council of Fairfax, Iowa cal) ed
to order at 7 -30 . by Mayor Raymond D. Mianer. All council-
men were present.
The minutes of the! September 10, 1958 meeting was read and
approved. The Treasurers report , showing a total amount of
cash on hand to be $13 ,940.90 was read and unanimously approved.
Warrants no. 644- through 646 were read and approved.
`own clerk instructed to check with the Internal Revenue dept
concerning witholding tax and social security tax from the
payroll of the Town Marshall.
Councilman Dvor°a ousted out that there is a need for approx.
two fourteen foot culverts, 811 diameter, at the D n.ni ton
ar°trid � corner. Council an Yan e indicated he would inv sti at
the costs of such culvert in Cedar Rapids.
Clerk reported a conversation with C. J. Knickerbocker pertain-
ing to a proposal existing between him and the town. No action
i to be taken at this time because Kniro er taoc er has not acte d act
in regard to his part of the proposal,
Installing street lights and the naming; of a street at the
south edge of town was discussed , but no definite action taken.
There being no farther business before this meeting, it was
moved, seconded and approved to adjourn.,

the Mayors letter of resignation that had been turned over to the
clerk on November 1, 1,958® fetter was read and motion by Listebar° �
seconded, and unanimously approved that Mayor Hi ner° be extended
an overwhelming vote of thanks for difficult job well. dons°; ,.
and that his service to the tev,'ri and leadership of the council
was greatly appreciated and will be long' r oememb red.®

be terminated in 30 days, or on December 6, 1958. Motion carried.

Further, it was to be l inedf that the job would be open
again and that if McCaughey was still in the area, there was
possibility that the opening could exist under the conditions
prior to August l59 1958
Clerk instructed t te she tower Commerce Commission in
further protest regarding the closing of our dspot service
on the Chicago & Northwestern Pailroad. NP further business
it was moved, seconded and carried to adjourn.

After some discussinn with Mr, Bch, a motion by Steinmetz and
seconded by Emanuel thal the town employ the services of Carleton
V Pch Co to prapare the necessary papers for the instigation
of necessary preliminary work in preparation of our financing
a municipal water system. A copy of the agreements are attached

Balloting for a new ay cr.. to replace retiring Mayor H zner was
accomplished and the results were e .f o r° to one in favor of F Keith

was rasa and approved. The new mayor was sworn in by clerk b i as.
A discussion an a poplacement for tho council vacancy left by
ListebargcrwaF hold, but nc action at this time.
Motion by Emanuol and svQynded by Fteinmetz to authorize the
Nayor to pay a now marshall so, on per month if he could find
some =r e suitable to hi to take the job.
There eing no further business to come before the meeting, it
was moved, seconded .a adjourn.
