It was determined that the budget hearing would be set for
7;00 PM August 10, 1970 and the clerk was instructed to publish
the budget estimate in the Cedar Rapids Gazette.
NO further business, meeting adjourned.

Special meeting of the Fairfax town council held at 7: 00 PM
August 10,, 1970.
All councilmen, present except Vavroch. Mayor Shakespeare. presided.
The purpose of this meeting was to hold the objectors hearing
regarding the 1971 budget estimate.
Mayor asked for objectors and there were none. Clerk reported
that no objections had been filed. On roll call vote,
the budget as published for
1971 was accepted unanimaoigly,

Regular meeting or the Fairfax `town Council held this 20th
day of July, 1970 with all councilmen present.

The minutes of the previous twuxmeetings were, read and approved,
(June 15, June 22 and July 2)
Architect Johnson present to discuss the roof covering job on the
Fire Station. He stated that the work was sub contracted to
T. & K. Roofing and he had touch confidence in their work ark
judgement. In his opiniDon, the job as done was a good job and
no facture problems should result. He also explained their warranty.
Other facets of the building, particularly the answers to the
geusti.ons that arose at the meeting at thebuilding site were
discussed in detail..
As a fire preventive measure, it was agreed that an extra
cost of $60.00 would be 1-'aid to Schoff Const . Co. for the
installat&on of a sheet rock dry gall on the back side of
the studs on the partition between the apparatus room and the
meeting room. Said gall would be unpainted. Said approval
on motion by Ka,ral and second by Vavrock being unan. approved .
Class C . Liquor Permit for Albert L. Snell was unanimously approved,
pending tlL- filing of necessary application and papers .
Linda Larkin, playground director and John R. Harover present to
ask the council if they would reconsider and extend the playground
program two weeks . Larkin pointed out the activities and attlenda_rce
and she thought, as did Harover, that the extension would be a
good investment for a continued prograa . Said request was decried
by the council by action of a motion for approval. by Austin dying
for lack of a second.
Wm. Gibney and Ronald Burger present to discuss future playground
activities in coming years at the request of the Mayors. These t
men were representing the Recreation Committee appointed by the Mayor.
Tennis courts, outside basketball courts and other general
_improve nts that could be mdde were discussed. Due to a Lack of
information relative to costs , said discussion had to be general.
Mayors thanked these men forth6 time spent on this project.
(Also presented was a request for funds f'or next years basebal "1
program, point&gig out that the fence is only half constructed
OrvA le Smith was present and displayed a petition signed by
citizens , several of which weve minors , asking for a swimming pool..
Due to the lack of general oblLigation bonding capacity, said
request could get no oonsic ration at this time .
Rudy Nemec prese t to discuss the lift station situation. He
was instructed to prepare a l st of par't's that should be on hand
aid also a list of needed repairs to be done and a list of
items that should be used as a prefentitive maintenance progRa a.
Merle Dietzenbach was approved s a folunteer fireman upon. t1
request of Fire Chief Carver,
