The Fairfax Town Cod it met in regular session Sept. 219 1970
at 7 :00 Pm. Mayor Shakespeare presiding with all councilmen
present on roll call vote.
As per publication in the Cedar Rapids Gazette, the time for
hearing and sale of $50,000,00 General Obligation Bands as
authorized by vote, was set for 7 :00 RK. There were no oral
bids, and there were two sealed bids, one from lown Des Moines
Notional Bank and one from Fairfax State Savings Bank.
The bid of Iowa Des Moines National Eank was a total interest
cost of $28,960-55 or 6.1553%. plus a premium of $5.70.
The bid of Fairfax State Savings Bank was $26,348-00 or 5.60%.
The bid was awarded Fairfax State Savings Bank as p; r the proceedings
on file with the bond attorney, Herrick, Langdon, Belin & Harris of
Des ,Moines , Ia.
Orrie Slatinow was prises at as representative of the Ia. Elec . Lt.
& Power Co. with resolutions relative to service on street lights .
Resolution 9-21-70, a copy of which is attached, was unanimously
jassed on roll call vote, said resolution setting forth the rates
and quantity of street lights for the caming year.
Russell Carver, fire chief, was present to discuss the open house
planned ty the firemen when the new station is ready foroccupancya
It was also decided that the firemen would assist the council in
preparing a "punch list" of things they may obserng as unfinished
on the building.
Vance Hall was unanimously approved, on reconmendation of the Fire
Cheif, for membership on the fire department.
Joel Johnson present to discuss the progress of the station and
it was agreed that a separate meeting would In held at the building
in an attempt to inspect for ary unfinished or unsatisfactory
work, the date of said meeting to be determined at a later date.
A discussion relative to the pay of John "Zamastil was held. After
a lengthy disoussion, it was moved by James tall ate, seconded "by
Franklin Karal and unantiously approved to offer to hi n. the pay of
$3.00 per hour with the understanding thqt his primary responsibility
so far as priority of time was to the town. This would be particularky
inportant in emergency situations ,
Clerk instructed to send a Utter to the C. & !� . W . Road waster at
HarsbAlltown relative to the drainage problem at the Vanderbilt
crossing.
The treasurers report was approved.
