Fairfax To Council & Zoning Commission
Fairfax
Iowa
Attention: Council & Zoning Commission
This letter is in regard to re-zoning of Lot 5, 'Kurt's First Addition to Fairfax,,
Iowa from 0-1 Commercial District to 1-2 Heavy Industrial District for the purpose
of construction of an Asphalt, Plant. We would like to convey our feelings con-
cerning this re-zoning and would hope the Council and Commission seriously take
into consideration this matter and rule Aglinst it®
Following are some concerns we have and fe-el should seriously be considered:
1. A plant such as this should not be located adjacent to residential areas
which it does®
2. What about noise, odor and smoke (dust, etc-)? (Yes, there are pollution
controls., but you cannot manufacture asphalt without some of all of these.)
With summer winds prevailing mainly from a southwesterly or northwesterly
flow, this will bring this right over the town of Fairfax at least part of
the time. Sounds greato doesn't it? Living close to this property, we
would have to contend with all of these.
It certainly will not add to the overall visual effect of the property
located there - show us an asphalt plant that adds anything to the ap-
pearance of that property or any ad oinin it. (Have any of you taken a
look at that particular piece of property from the back at the present
time - a tin shed with a lean-to and a lot of junk piled around and some
old equipment doesn't exactly come under town beautification. Add to
that piles of sand, gravel, etc. plus the structure itself and a bunch
of trucks and you have the makings of a nice big, eye sorel )
4,. Should this re-zoning be passed to heavy industrial., what else do the
residents of this area have in store for them - that would be Just as
bad as an asphalt plant or worse?
5,. If the County will not allow the construction of any asphalt plants, why
should the town of Fairfax allow one within the city limits?
6. Having an asphalt plant that close to residential property certainly does
not add to the realestate value of that residential property.
We feel full consideration should be given to this matter and urgently wish that
you 'rule against its
Sincerely,
Mr. and Mrs. Howard Novotny

Dear Sirs:
We disapprove of re-zoning of this area to
I.nn.uMtry, becaume of the ranidental
goning adjoining thia area. Normally, heavy
industrial areon are insulated by light industry,
commerical, then mulLi-family. Rarely will you
find heavy industrial on one lot and reAdental

We are asking YUU to refune re-ZOA, of thS.,

Thank you.,
