Mayor J. Feight presiding. Council present , Balog, Berryhill , Josifek Zamastil present , Otto absent. Mayor "eight opened public hearing on sewer rate changes at 7 P.M. Citizens attending meeting discussed the rate changes with council. Public hearing closed at 8:45 PM. Mayor height then opened regular meeting. ApprovaT of minutes of previous meeting, budget report , financial report 4n motion by N.Josifek, 2nd- J. 7amastil, carried. Ordinance 112 being an Ordidnee "GRANTING A 25 YEAR FRANCHISE TO SCUTE SLOPE TELEPHOFE CO" was presented and read the firt time. Council member Josifek moved the Ordinance on its first reading and that the rule requiring three o- eadWs on three different days be suspended and the Crdinance be placed on its second and third readings by its title , sedonded by B. Balog, Carried. City Clerk then read the ordinance 112, grad and 3rd time by title only, Motion to approve by B. Balog, 2nd J. Zamastil. All voting aye. Mayor Feight declared ordinance approved and it shall be in full force and effect after approval by a majority of the electors of the the City of Fairfax. Mr. Bob Levi from low, III Cas presented the City Council with some figures in regard to recent request from la III to raise their rates in our area. Mr. Dpvid Neuhaus aispokeperson,for the trustees of the funds left to the city in Mr. ]galls will, discussed with council the trust. No plans have been made and the trustees would welcome an suggestions. The Bids were opened on the Water Looping Project, They were as follows: Tdtal bid. . .Mid-States $24,419.50, Schmidt Const ' $21 ,05.50, Barber Excavating $16,399.50, Rathje Const 13,325.50, Motion by A.Balq#, to award contract to Rahtie Construction 2nd N. Leonard Davis, Starwest Cable TV, attend meeting to advise council that he should be able to have his equipment back in the area to extend the cable coverage to those residence on Cemetery Road west and Stallman, road that wish it, bv the latter part of July. He also told council that the weather station from Kirkwood college is now on Channell. 11 (no video yet just sound ) and he hopes to add one more channel! this fall, Cigarette permit for the Handimart was approved on motion of A Zamastil 2nd B Balog Permit for the Star Ebtel to an outside jeer garden during Bey Heys approve on motion of T. Berryhill 2nd A 7amastil Carried Clean Up day discussed. City Clerk instructed to send a latter of thanks, to_,v Bill Wernimount, Ralph Emanuel , Rich Divishek, Gordon Sorg, Bud Burger" TO Shakespeare, Wig Shakespeare , Ron StPlIman, Bob Otto and R. Dusil for their help in appreciation for a job well done. City of Cedar Rapids bill for the extra landfill fees was $488.00 approved for payment bp motion of T. Berryhil 2nd B. Balog, Carried All voting aye Discussion on purchase of electric typewriters for City hall and Library tabled until library Board can recommend to council their feelings and then at that time they will again consider the purchase of one for City Clerks office. On motion of J. Josifek 2nd B. Balog a 0 Weedeater"' to—be purchased for the maintence of the park and other areas of the city. Voting yes Josifek, Balog, Berryhill voting no Tamastil. Carried Payrollresolution 6784 was read and approve on motion-of 1. Josifek, 2nd T Berryhill Carried all voting aye Motion to approve the bills as nresented with the exception of the Overhead Door authority Door bill and giving the City ClerkZto pay any bills that are received before the close of the fiscal year on June 30th that are in this years budget. That South Slope Cooperative Telephone Coinpany of Norway, Iowa (a corporation), its successors and assigns, are hereby granted the right to use and occupy the streets, alleys and other public places of the City of Fairfax, 10-,va for a term of twenty-five (25) years from the effect6ve date hereof, for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and operating a gene�-af telephone, telegraph and communications system within said City. Section 2. That the rights herein granted are subject to the exercise of the pofice power as the same now is or may 11ereaiter be conferred upon said City. Section 3. That the South Slope Cooperative Telephone Company of Norway, Iowa, shall, upon demand, pay the cost of publishing this ordinance and of holding the election hereinafter referred to. Section 4.
