The search was for a person in the community or a professional educator (one currently employed as an educator) who "celebrates literacy" in a special way, We solicited nominations for both categories from the general public„ members of the reading organization, and from members of civic organizations throughout Linn and Benton Counties. We are pleased to inform you that Linda Balog.°.has been selected as the "1985 Friend of Literacy" by the Cedar Rapids Area Council . Mrs. Balog's community work in your town library was the major factor in her selection. It is a pleasure for our council to be able to honor this "Friend of Literacy" . She will be officially presented with her award during the Cedar Rapid's Area Council 's Spring Banquet olin May 2nd at Stouffer's Five Seasons, Patsy Ervin, a teacher in the College Community School District, is the person cited for the award in the education category.
