Regular meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held 5/2/85 . Mayor
James Feight presiding, Council present Balog, Berryhill , Bullock
Josifek . Zamastil absent .
Minutes of previous meeting approved on motion of Berryhill 2nd j
Balog Carried.
Clerks budget and financial report approved and placed on file .

Correspondence from Iowa DOT advising Council that a street inventory
crew will be in Fairfax during the months of May, June , July updating
base record infomation concerning our streets . The survey vehicle
travels at only 4 to 5 miles per hour and makes frequent stops .
The regular July Council meeting will be changed to Tuesday, July 2 ,
as regular meeting time falls on July 4 .
Two quotes were received for repairs to Main street that was tore up
in the water looping project . Motion of Berryhill ., 2nd Bullock,
Merta Concrete Const to be hired to do the repairs on Main street .
Carried . All voting aye.
Public hearing on 84/85 Budget Amendment to be May 14, 1985 at 6 PAS
on motion of Balog, 2nd Berryhill. . Carried
Petition presented to Council from residence of Southview Road asking
that City contact Linn County in regard to hardsurfacing Southview
Road. Clerk to contact Supervisors and Linn Co Engineer and ask that
they attend the May 14th special Council meeting.
Correspondence to be sent to Selzer Const in regard to street & ditch
repairs on Park Street ., Councilman Balog to see about the possibility
of putting up a new back stop on leased park property. Councilwomen
Josifek to check with College Community Little League
about practice

times on ball diamond and make other contacts to set up a some type
of scheduling for the ball diamonds .
On motion of Josifek, 2nd Berryhill , frames for picnic table and
park type bench for Tennis court #1 area to be ordered. Carried.
Beer license & cigarette

motion of Balog, 2nd Berryhill . Carried
Building permits for Allards and Divisheks approved on motion of
Balog, 2nd Josifek . Carried
Beer permit for American Legion Hey Dey Beer tents approved on motion
of Balog, 2nd Berryhill . Carried
j General Hey Dey discussion held. The beer tents have been relocated
this year to the Bank parking lot and there will be more smaller childxens
rides . They will be located on Main street by the water tower, parade
route will be the same as last year, a culvert will be placed in

ditch on Zinn street so that , weather permitting, cars c parked

in field at the corner of Vanderbilt and Linn Street .
Joe. Morrissey present Council with his plan for a beer garden for
Hey Dey (with the possiblity he may make it a permanent one) . He will
resubmit the plans at the May 14th special meeting after his insurance
company gives him coverage for the outside beer garden.
Dick Freeman , Linn County - Extension Serv, will check out trees, bushes
etc . that had possible damage to them, and check other trees on city
property that may need to be removed. On motion of Josifek, 2nd Berry-
hill that Clerk get quotes on any trees that need removing for the
June Council meeting .. Carried
Clean up day discussion. Notice to be put into May water bills .
On motion of Balog, 2nd Josifek, all volunteers who work at least: .
two hours , will be guest of the city for their noon meal at the
Star Hotel & Livery. Carried. All volunteers are to report to City
Hall no later than 7 :. 45 AM.
City to contract with HACAP for workers to help with several projects
in the City, on motion of Balog, 2nd Berryhill . Carried
Priority items for Hacap projects 1 . Clean Sand off streets , 2 . clean
driveway culverts , 3 . clean out ditch along Chgo NW tracks from Railroad
street to East city limits , 4 . Clean brush, down trees etc . in area
between quarry and Lagoon on city property.
Ron Dusil to schedule hours and number of people to be contracted
for and supervise their work.
Letter to be sent to Iowa Dept of WAWM asking for an on site inspection
and judgement on two areas that appear to be infringing in the Floodway
District on motion of Balog, 2nd Josifek. Carried all voting aye
On motion of Josifek, 2nd Balog, The YTT committee be given permission
to have their information booklet printing by a printing company
j instead of using the copy machine . Carried all voting aye
On motion of Balog, 2nd. Berryhill a certified letter be sent to
property owner and renter where there is a possible violation of
City Ordinance . Carried all voting aye .
On motion of Josifek, 2nd Berryhill, Clerk given permission to
have water billing clerk work extra hours cleaning out old records

meeting in Des Moines on Fair Standards Wage & Hour law. Carried..
On motion of Josifek, 2nd Balog, bills approved for payment .

Mayor. Feight presiding . Council present : Balog, Berryhill & Josifek
Absent Bullock & Zamastil .
Purpose of meeting : Budget Amendment & Street repairs for Southview Rd.
Also attending were Steve::. Gannon, Linn Co Engineers Office, Ken Schriner,
Board of Supervisors , Don Kleis , Prairie Roadbuilders , Mr & Mrs Dave
Eckhart , & Randy Price .
Discussion held in regard to Southview Road improvements . On motion
of Balog, 2nd Berryhill, City of Fairfax to pay to the County the
difference between the cost of their usual dust control with calcuim-
chloride and M70 Oil and sand. Carried All voting aye .
County will also include that portion of Williams Blvd from highway
149 to Southview Road in this same program per motion by Balog,
2nd Berryhill . Carried . All voting Aye
Pablic- Hearing held on Budget 84/85 Amendment . No objectors appeared rI,
and none received by mail . Resolution 51485 presented byN. Josifek
2nd Balog to amend 84/85 Budget as published. Carried All voting aye .
