The regular meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held March 5 , 1987 , j
at 7 : 00 PM. Mayor Charles Peters presiding . Council present, Bach, Balog,
Cerveny, & Shakespeare . Absent. Bullock .
Public Hearing on the 1987/1988 City Budget was opened by Mayor Peters at
7 : 03 PM. Hearing no comments for or against the purposed budget , Mayor
Peters closed public hearing at 7 : 05 PM.
Mayors Peters opened regular meeting . Minutes of previous meeting, p
clerks report, & budget report approved on motion of Cerveny 2nd
Shakespeare . Carried . All Ayes
Motion to approve adgenda as post made by Balog 2nd Bach . Carried All Ayes
Resolution 3587 "Adoption of the Annual Budget for Fiscal Year 1987-1988"
presented on motion of Shakespeare , 2nd Cerveny. Carried on roll call
vote : Yes : Bach, Balog, Cerveny, Shakespeare, No : None . Absent Bullock.
Liquor permit for Star Motel & Livery approved on motion of Cerveny,.
2nd Bach. Carried . All voting Yes . No : none Absent Bullock
No building permits presented . City Clerk to send letter to builders of
home can Lesey street for an update of their progress .
On motion of Cerveny, 2nd Balog, Linn County .Sheriffs contract to be
signed by Mayor Peters with the change of hours from 40 per week to
30 hours per week. This contract to be effective July 1 , 1987 . Roll
Call vote . Yes : Bach, Balog, Cerveny & Shakespeare No : None . Absent
Bullock
Bob Levi from Iowa Ill Gas discussed with City Council their services .
He also informed council that they are planning to extend natural
gas to the Gaddis and Newkirk addition on Cemetery Road East .
BudBUrger attend meeting as a representative of the Baseball Assoc .
and advised council of equipment and uniforms that were purchased
for the Little League teams this past year .
Mr L. Davis from Starwest Cable advised Council that the cable rates
for Fairfax will be going up $1 . 00 per month (from 15 . 00 to 16 . 00) on
April 1, 1987 . At that time they will also be adding the Nashville
station. The increase is caused by increased descrambling and maintence
coslts .
Minutes of the P & Z meeting held on Feb . 11, 1987 presented to council .
Approval by P & Z committe of Cities application for annexation of
property to the city presented to council , noting that it would be
annexed with a zoning classification of "A-1" Rural Restricted .
Letter to be sent to committee informing them that the East Central Iowa
Council of Governments will be contacted for further information on

a Comprehensive Plan and for date of their next meeting .
Resolution #3587A "Annexation of City owned Property" present on motion
of Balog, 2nd Cerveny Carried . Yes : Bach, Balog, Cerveny & Shakespeare
No : none Absent Bullock
0n motion of Cerveny, 2nd Balog, City to have Mall & Hall Engineering
place survey stakes on Quarry drive so that gravel maybe placed on it
this year with further improvements next year. Carried. Yes : Bach,
Balog, Cerveny, No : None , Abstain: Shakespeare, Absent Bullock.
0n motion of Cerveny, 2nd Bach, Public hearing for F/Y 86/87 Budget.
Amendment to be held at 7PM on April 2 , 1987 . Carried all voting yes .
Notice to be placed in water bills in regard to the number of residence
who would want a tree planted 6n the city property in front of their
homes where there are no utilities above or below ground.
Councilmen Cerveny appointed to meet with Fire Dept on March 16th in
regard to the opening of the bids for a new fire truck.
0n motion of Shakespeare 2nd Bach Application to be approved and signed
by Mayor Peters with Iowa DOT for a crossing under highway 151 . Carried
All voting yes .
Motion to approve bills made by Cerveny 2nd Bach . All voting yes .
Motion to adjourn at 9 : 30PM made by Cerveny 2nd Shakespeare Carried.
