T'he regular meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held at 7 : 00PM
on November 14, 1989 . Mayor-Pro-Tem Cerveny presiding. Council present
Cerveny, Svoboda, Quillin & Nading. Bullock absent . Mayor Peters absent
A� proval :of Agenda as posted, minutes of previous meeting and
budget & financial reports approved on motion of Svoboda, 2nd Nading.
Mr . Don Hall , City Engineer, introduced Glen Meisner & Dan Boggs to
the City Council . Mr gall is retiring as of 11/15/89 and advise the
Council that these two gentlement and the rest of his regular staff
would be handling the cities business . Council thanked Mr Hall for
his years of service to the city.
Meeting recess at 7 : 20 on motion of Cerveny, 2nd Nading, to reconvene
at 8 : 30 . :Carried. :.
Meeting called back to order at 8 : 30 PM by Mayor Peters , Councilmen
Cerveny returned to meeting at 8 : 30PM.
On motion of Svoboda, 2nd Nading, City Clerk to send out inquiries
to companies that might be interested in bidding on the demolition
of the two houses and garage that city has condemned for the new
Library, and that Mr Vance be allowed to retain his garage until Junel
if the Citys last offer is accepted on or before December 12th Council
meeting. Carried. Roll Call vote. All voting Aye .
A member of the P & Z Committee will be ask to be the city representative
at the Linn County REAP committee . Meeting to be held on 11/30/89.
Gin motion of Svoboda, 2nd Cerveny, City Attorney to send letter to
Chicago NW Railroad in regard to the replacement of the sidewalk that
they removed at the Vanderbilt street crossing. Carried.. All voting aye .
On motion of Nading, 2nd Quillen, East Certral Iowa Council of Governments
be contacted to write the grant for the Library funds for partial.
cost of the new library. Carried . All voting AYe .
On motion of Svoboda, 2nd Nading, Hilton Trucking ' s building permit
of a 40 ' x 100 ' building was approved. Carried . All votingAye.
On motion of Nading, 2nd Svoboda, contract to be signed with "Pete"
Howe Sanitation for three year program of cleaning sewer lines and
Lift stations . Carried. All voting aye .
Report from the Risk department of Employers Mutual Insurance company
was discussed . Three of the items Listed have been taken care of.
On motion of Svoboda, 2nd Cerveny, Mayor to send letter to owners
of basketball pole , requesting it be removed, City Clerk to inquire
into cost of climbing cage on watertower, and that the 6th item
in regard to sidewalks be incorporated in the cities 5 year Capital
Improvement plan. Carried. All voting aye .
T''he newly elected Council members and Mayor will be sworn into offiiee
at the conclusion of the December 12th Council meeting . Discussion
held in regard to F/Y 90-91 budget. Councilmembers Quillin and Svoboda
will work on the Community Protection and Horace & Community divisions
Councilmembers Cerveny & Bullock, Human Development division, and
Mayor-elect Nading & Councilmen-elect xastin;gs, Pol-icy & Adm. divisions .
Ore. Motion of Quillin, 2nd Cerveny, represenatives from Greiner ell
to attend the December Council meeting with complete clarification of
repairs made and complete accounting of bill presented for payment. Carried
on motion of Nading, 2nd Cerveny bills approved as presented. Carried.
On motion of Nading 2nd Quillin meeting adjourned at 9 : 25 PM.
