COUNCIL MEETING - TUESDAY JANUARY 10 , 1994 - 7 . 00 P .M. - CITY HALL
TENTATIVE AGENDA:

CITY OF FAIRFA '
Regular meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held Tuesday
January 11 , 1994 at 7 : 00 p. m. Mayor Sh,eely presiding. Council
members present: Neuhaus , ODonnell, Root, Stallman and Wainwright.
Motion of Neuhaus, 2nd ODonnell to approve the agenda, minutes
of previous meeting, budget and financial reports . MC
Deputy Sheriff Ellison was present, the Council would like the
Deputies to be more visible when they are in Fairfax . They also
need to watch for snowmobiles which are causing problems going
through private property and on the streets . The snowplow is having
trouble getting through some streets because of cars parked along
the street, if they have trouble they are to contact the sheriff ' s
department to have the cars towed.
Bruce Kuhel, Iowa DOT, was present to bring the Council up to
date on the Highway 151 project thru Fairfax, They will start on
the curve south of Fairfax and go to Prairie Ave . , widening and
putting curb and gutter. They will also install a storm sewer south
of the viaduct, and want the City to share the cost of
constructing. The sidewalks on the east side of the highway will be
reinstalled and be raised about 2 1/2 feet . The Council suggested
that he go back and look into plans to lowering the highway. Bruce
stated that the City would have to pay to move existing Fire
Hydrants and any water lines that may have to be moved.
Graybill Electronics presented some quotes on setting up a
paging system for the city' s sewer alarm system. Motion of Neuhaus ,
2nd Stallman the city will buy the system from Graybill. They will
send us a complete breakdown of the cost . MC
Liz Christiansen, ECIGOG, informed the Council of the new 28E
agreement on Solid Waste . Alisha ODonnell will attend the meeting
on January 27th to represent the City.
Maintenance report: Ron and Lud explained all the work they have
been doing over the past month. Painting of City Hall , building new
cupboards in maintenance bldg. new floor in restroom and requesting
permission to get parts for the tractor and a new door for the pump
house .
Motion of Neuhaus, 2nd ODonnell for the reappointment of the
following: Betty Panek, City Clerk, Hall & Hall Engr. , Scott
McLeod, City Atty. , for two year terms . Mike Sankot ( Spanky) was
appointed Fire Chief . Appointed to 6 year terms on the Library
Board were , Kathy Waychoff , Vernon Cerveny and Steven Meyer . Dean
Hartman was reappointed to a 5 year term on the Planning and
Zoning . Mark Neuhaus was named Mayor Pro Tem.
Motion of Wainwright , 2nd Neuhaus to renew the contract with
Virginia Soukup to help at City Hall for 1 year . MC.
Motion of Neuhaus , 2nd Stallman to pay bills presented, with the
exception of the bill for the Radio Maintenance Contract. MC.
No further buisness, ODonnell made a motion to adjourn, 2nd
Neuhaus . Adjourned at 9 : 45 p.m.

IT IS AGREED BETWEEN VIRGINIA SOUKUP AND THE CITY OF FAIRF'AX,
THAT VIRGINIA SOUKUP SHALT, ENTER INTO A CONTRACT WITH THE CITY OF
FAIRFAX, FOR A ONE ( 1 ) YEAR PERIOD, TO HELP THE CITY CLERK WITH
VARIOUS DUTIES AT CITY HALL , EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1 , 1994, UNDER THE
FOLLOWING CONDITION'S.
1 . PAY SHALL BE AT THE RATE OF $12 . 50 PER HOUR.
2 . EITHER PARTY MAY TERMINATE THIS AGREEMENT BY GIVING
THE OTHER Two ( 2 ) WEEKS ADVANCE NOTICE IN WRITING.
