P.O.Box 8 21OT'u7LE STREET • NORWAY;lowA 52318-0008 319-227-7111 FAX 319-227-7700 City of Fairfax July 3, 2001 Fairfax, IA The following proposal is for your review for changes to your telephone and internet services that you now have for city offices, library, and fire department. You will note that the changes have a net savings to the city when services are implemented. Proposal l Change current dial-tune service to Centrex service, Centrex service is a feature offered to businesses from South. Slope that allows telephone service located within a building or office as well as offices located remotely within the South Slope exchange to be joined together and work as one phone system. This allows phone calls to be transferred between locations, answered from remote locations, or transferred to a number such as a wireless phone or voice mailbox. With Centrex service, you are able to have conference calls using just one line, this allows you to dial a second number using the same line that you are currently using to call another party to obtain information, or to add that party to your conversation. The main benefit for changing to this service is to answer a call at city hall that is for another department, specifically the building department that will be located in the remote office trailer, This will allow just one phone line to serve the building department yet be able to have calls answered and transferred from another office This service may also be set-up to provide four-digit extension dialing between other numbers within the group (library, fire department, buildings department). Proposa12 South Slope will donate to the Fairfax Fire Department an Alcatel Speedtouch Home DSL modem, along with the installation charges associated with High Speed Internet Service. This amounts to $350.00. This would allow an always on high speed internet connection to be available to access weather maps to assist the weather spotters. South Slope will allow the City Hall to share the internet connection if they agree to pay the monthly charge for the service. The equipment and installation that South Slope will donate may be used for both locations. Note, a multi-port router will be needed to share this service. The cost to the city for this service would depend on the package that is requested. Packages start at $44.95 per month.. This service includes the internet connection and the DSL service that the internet is provided over. This means no additional lines`or ISP charges are required with this proposal. T6 o9ope l . IND VE P.O.Box 8 • 210 Tu'r€LE STREET • NORWAY,lowa 52318-0008 • 319-227-7111 • FAX 319-227-7700 Proposal 3 South Slope will donate to the Fairfax Library an Alcatel Speedtouch Home DSL modem, along with the installation charges associated with High Speed Internet Service. This amounts to $350.00. South Slope in addition will make available a 384K 1 1Mb internet connection at no charge. This would allow an always on high speed internet connection to be available for public and library users. South Slope requests that a small plaque be located by each computer that recognizes South Slope as the internet provider. These plaques are provided by South Slope and are approximately 2 inch by 3 inch. This would save the Library two line charges each month as well as any charges. they are now paying for internet service. This is a brief summary of our proposals to assist the City of Fairfax with.their communications needs. South Slope is proud to serve our members and support non- profit organizations, libraries and public schools within our exchanges.. We encourage comments and questions that you may have to help better understand our products and services that make up your cooperative telephone company.
