SPECIAL EMERGENCY CITY COUNCIL MEETING
AUGUST 28, 2009
The special emergency meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held Friday, August 28,
2009,at Fairfax City Hall. Mayor Voss called the meeting to order at 10:20 AM. Council
members present: Bernie Frieder, Jason Rabe, and Marc Magers, JoAnn Beer and Marianne
Wainwright were absent. Other city staff present: City Clerk Cynthia Stimson.
Mayor Voss explained that the special emergency meeting was held to discuss the
problem with the interior of the water tower. After inspection,it was learned that the interior
needs to be painted. The paint crew is already on site to paint the outside of the tower. The City
of Fairfax must make an immediate decision so the painting crew from Maguire Iron knows how
to proceed with the work today. If no immediate decision is made, Maguire Iron will not do the
work and the City will have to pay thousands of extra dollars to get a painting crew back and
duplicate some of the work. Maguire Iron has submitted a proposal to paint the interior of the
water tower for $39,501.00.
Nancy Flickinger, Finance Administrator,has talked to Tom Streets and he informed her
that we could delay payment as needed.
Motioned by Frieden, seconded by Magers to accept the proposal from Maguire Iron to
paint the interior of the water tower for$39,501.00 using the delayed payment option. Ayes:
Frieden, Rabe, and Magers. Nays: none. Absent: Beer and Wainwright. Motion carried.
Motioned by Frieden, seconded by Magers to adjourn the meeting. Ayes: Frieden, Rabe.,
and Magers. Nays: none. Absent: Beer and Wainwright. Motion carried.
Mayor Voss adjourned the meeting at 10:28 AM.
