HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-23-2011 Special Meeting CITY OF FAIRFAX ` SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING FEBRUARY 23, 2011 A special meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Fairfax City Hall. Mayor Jason Rabe called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Council members present: JoAnn Beer, Bernie Frieden,Travis Otto, and Marc Magers. Marianne Wainwright was absent. Other city staff present: Cynthia Stimson, Lynn Miller, and Fire Chief Mike Sankot. Also present was City Engineer Shane Wicks. Motioned by Magers, seconded by Beer to approve the agenda. Ayes: Beer, Frieden, Otto, and Magers. Absent: Wainwright. Motion carried. Motioned by Frieden, seconded by Magers to approve RESOLUTION NO. 2011-14,A. RESOLUTION TO FIX A DATE FOR A PUBLIC HEARING ON A LOAN ` AGREEMENT IN A PRINCIPAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $550,000. Ayes: Beer, Frieden, Otto, and Magers. Absent: Wainwright. Motion carried. Mayor Rabe declared RESOLUTION 2011-14 duly adopted. Mayor Rabe distributed a spreadsheet with capital improvement projects' expenses and revenues estimated for the next few years. Extensive discussion was held about the City's future plans for the farm ground south of Linn Street. Possible placements for athletic fields and city facilities were discussed. The city engineers are to work up a layout for the ground. The City will try to determine if two baseball/softball fields, one soccer field, expanded parking, and the supporting facilities can be placed on this ground and usable by the spring of 2012. Fairfax.Youth Sports Association stated that they would like to see at least one Little League and one Pony League diamond ready by that time, The City will gather information about possible grant money. The city clerk distributed the FY 2012 budget sheets. Fairfax's new population is 2,123. This made Fairfax one of the fastest growing communities in lowa from 2000 to 2010. Discussion was held about the Hawks Ridge Park improvements. The pavilion will be _ installed soon, we have an estimate for the parking lot, and adding a basketball hoop was discussed. Motioned by Magers, seconded by Frieden to adjourn the meeting. Ayes: Beer,Frieden, Otto,and Magers. Absent: Wainwright. Motion carried. Mayor Rabe adjourned the meeting at 7:35 PM.
