HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/22/2012 Council Minutes CITY OF FAIRFAX SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING MAY 22, 2012 The special meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at Fairfax City Hall. Mayor Jason Rabe called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM. Council members present: JoAnn Beer, Bernie Frieden, Marc Magers, and Marianne Wainwright. Travis Otto entered at 6:03. Other city staff present: Cynthia Stimson. Motioned by Magers, seconded by Beer to approve the agenda. Ayes: Beer, Frieden, Magers, and Wainwright. Nays: None. Absent: Otto. Motion carried. Maggie Burger, from Speer Financial, was present to discuss today’s bond sale. Four bids were received. The lowest bid was from UMB Bank, n.a., Kansas City, Missouri, for a true interest rate of 1.4410%. RESOLUTION 2012-36, A Motioned by Magers, seconded by Beer to approve RESOLUTION AWARDING SALE OF GENERAL OBLIGATION FIRE TRUCK AND REFUNDING BONDS, SERIES 2012 . Roll call vote: Ayes: Beer, Frieden, Otto, Magers, and RESOLUTION 2012-36 Wainwright. Nays: None. Motion carried. Mayor Rabe declared duly adopted. Marc Magers asked Maggie Speer about the spending time limits for bonds. Discussion was held concerning the timing of the trail bond sale and other possible refunding opportunities to take advantage of these historically low rates. Travis Otto stated that there is a lot of speeding on Sunflower. A “Children at Play” sign was discussed, as well as stepped up enforcement. He also mentioned that Cemetery Road has tar coming through from the traffic and possibly needs sand. Motioned by Magers, seconded by Beer to adjourn the meeting. Ayes: Beer, Frieden, Otto, Magers, and Wainwright. Nays: None. Motion carried. Mayor Rabe adjourned the meeting at 6:25 PM.
