CITY OF FAIRFAX
SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
SEPTEMBER 26, 2012
The special meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held Wednesday, September 26,
2012, at Fairfax City Hall. Mayor Pro Tempore Marianne Wainwright called the meeting to
order at 6:00 PM. Council members present: Bernie Frieden, Travis Otto, Marc Magers, and
Marianne Wainwright. JoAnn Beer was absent. Mayor Rabe entered at 6:03 PM. Other city
staff present: Cynthia Stimson.
Motioned by Magers, seconded by Frieden to approve the agenda. Ayes: Frieden, Otto,
Magers, and Wainwright. Nays: None. Absent: Beer. Motion carried.
Discussion was held concerning the two quotes received for a new cold storage
maintenance building. Eastern Iowa Building, Inc. submitted the lowest quote.
Motioned by Magers, seconded by Frieden to accept the quote from Eastern Iowa
Building, Inc. of $63,833.00 for the new cold storage building and concrete. Ayes: Frieden,
Otto, and Magers. Nays: none. Abstain: Wainwright. Wainwright abstained because of a
conflict of interest. Absent: Beer. Motion carried.
Discussion was held concerning the grant application process for money to be used to
install a basketball court at Hawks Ridge Park. Cost estimate and placement were discussed.
The Council feels this is a great project and that the Parks and Beautification Committee should
continue the application process.
Marianne Wainwright discussed the condition of some commercial properties in Fairfax.
Junk, vehicles, and weeds were discussed.
Marc Magers asked what will be done for a gap at the concession stand window. This is
on the punch list and will be reviewed.
The new sod at the park project is brown. The contractor is responsible for the watering
and the City will not accept it next spring if it is not healthy, growing grass.
Motioned by Magers, seconded by Frieden to adjourn the meeting. Ayes: Frieden, Otto,
Magers, and Wainwright. Nays: None. Absent: Beer. Motion carried.
Mayor Rabe adjourned the meeting at 6:44 PM.
