SPECIAL CITY COUNCIL MEETING
AUGUST 21, 2014
The special meeting of the Fairfax City Council was held Thursday, August 21, 2014, at
Fairfax City Hall. Mayor Rabe called the meeting to order at 5:30 PM. Council members
present: JoAnn Beer, Bernie Frieden, Travis Otto, and Marianne Wainwright. Marc Magers was
absent. Other city staff present: Cynthia Stimson.
Motioned by Beer, seconded by Otto to approve the agenda. Ayes: Beer, Frieden, Otto,
and Wainwright. Nays: None. Absent: Magers. Motion carried.
Discussion was held about the flood repair work needed to the stream channel.
Motioned by Wainwright, seconded by Otto to approve RESOLUTION 2014-79, A
RESOLUTION TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH RAY'S EXCAVATING,
LLC FOR STREAM CHANNEL FLOOD REPAIR WORK. Roll call vote: Ayes: Beer,
Frieden, Otto, and Wainwright. Nays: none. Absent: Magers. Motion carried. Mayor Rabe
declared RESOLUTION 2014-79 duly adopted.
Discussion was held about where residents can purchase garbage tags. Staff was
instructed to contact the restaurants in town and offer for them to be able to sell the tags.
Shane Wicks discussed the phasing of work by Rathje Construction at the East Cemetery
Road area. Their proposal should save one to two weeks.
Shane also discussed concerns from Arps about the elevation of the drainage swale. If
the elevations are changed, the City of Fairfax will require they sign an agreement to the
conditions. Shane will prepare change order documents for council's review during the next
regular city council meeting.
JoAnn Beer asked about the detention basin area behind Jane Sankot's house. Jane has
requested some improvements to the area. The Parks and Beautification Committee will discuss
this topic during their meeting later tonight.
Motioned by Frieden, seconded by Beer to adjourn the meeting. Ayes: Beer, Frieden,
Otto, and Wainwright. Nays: None. Absent: Magers. Motion carried.
Mayor Rabe adjourned the meeting at 6:13 PM
