WATER QUALITY REPORT
FOR
Fairfax
This report contains important information regarding the water quality in our water system The source of our water is ground water.
Our groundwater is drawn from The Silvrian-Niagard and the Silvrian-Kankakee aquifers)..A source water assessment has been
completed at this time. Fairfax Water System routinely monitors for constituents in your drinking water according to Federal ans State
laws.This table shows the results of our monitoring for the period of January 1", 1993 to December 31'% 1998.All drinking water,
including bottled drinking water,may be reasonably expected to contain at least small amounts of some constituents. It's important to
remember that the presence of these constituents does not necessarily pose a health risk.

Note;Grantaminants wish dates indicate results from the most recent testing done in accordance with regulations.
Nitrate in drinking water at levels above 10 ppm is a health risk for infants of less than six months of age.High nitrate levels in
drinking water can cause blue baby syndrome. Nitrate levels may rise quickly for short periods of time because of rainfall or
agricultural activity.if you are caring for an infant you should ask advice from your health care provider.
We constantly monitor the water supply for various constituents, We have detected radon in the finished water supply in 8 out of 8
samples tested.There is no.federal regulation for radon levels in drinking water.Exposure to air transmitted radon over a long period
of time may cause adverse health effects.
As you see by the table,our system had no violations. We're proud that your.drinking water meets or exceeds all Federal and.State
requirements.We have learned through our monitoring and testing that some constituents have been detected.The EPA has
determined that your water 1S SAFE at these levels.
All sources of drinking water are subject to potential contamination by constituents that are naturally occurring or is man made.Those
constituents can be microbes,organic or inorganic chemicals,or radioactive materials.
All drinking water,including bottled water,may reasonably be expected to contain at least small amounts of some contaminants.'me
Presence of contaminants does not necessarily indicate that the water poses a health risk More information,about contaminants and
potential health effects can be obtained by calling the Environmental protection Agency's Safe Drinking Water Hotline at 1-800-426-
4791
MGL's are set at very stringent levels. To understand the possible health effects described for many regulated constituents,a person
would have to drink 2 liters of water every day at the MCL level for a lifetime to have a one-in-a-million chance of having the
described health effect.
NITRATES:As a precaution we always notify physicians and health care providers in this area if there is ever a higher than normal
level of nitrates in(lie water supply,
LEAD,-Lead in drinking water is rarely the sole cause of lead poisoning,but it can add to a person's total lead exposure.All potential
sources of lead in the household should be identified and removed,replaced or reduced.
Thank you for allowing us to continue providing your family with clean,quality water this year. In order to maintain a safe:and
dependable water supply we sometimes need to make improvements that will benefit all of our customers.These improvements are
sometimes reflected as rate structure adjustments.Thank you for understanding.
Some people may be more vulnerable to contaminants in drinking water than the general population..Immuno-compromised persons
such as persons with cancer undergoing chemotherapy,persons who have undergone:organ transplants,people with IRWAIDS or
other immune system disorders,some elderly,and infants can be particularly at risk from infections.These people should seek advice
about dfinking water from there health care providers.EPA/CDC guidelines on appropriate means to lessen the risk of infections by
cryptosporidium and other microbiological contaminants are available from the Safe Drinking Water Hotline(800-426-4791)

Decisions regarding the water system are made at the City Council Meeting held on the 2"d Tuesday of every month at the Fairfax City
Hall.This meeting is held open to the public starting at 7:00 PM.
Any other information or sample report information,please contact me at City Hall during the above hours. We have sample
information back to year 1993.

close to the MCLCjs as feasible using the best available treatment technology.
