Council Meeting
February 8, 2000
Mayor Voss called the Council Meeting to order at 7:00 p.m Council members present,Beer,
Scott, Shakespeare and Stockton. Absent Wainwright Guests,Vernon Cerveny,Library Board Chair;
Library Board members,Norri�ne Zarnastil,Bernie Kleppe,Mary Lou Selzer,Mary Rita Meyers,Dot
Pospischil and Rita Nierling. Carol Niles Libraian,

Sgt Carol Curran presented the Sheriff's list of calls.Discussed the snowmobiles going around
Fairfax.The Council will look into an Ordinance to ban them from toam.
RESOLUTION 2000-02-08,accepting the 1998 Sewer and Water Extensions Project and payment
of the retainage, withholding a portion until East Cemetery Rd. is repaired-Motion Beer,2`d Stockton to
approve Resolution 2000-02-08.MC,
Dan Shakespeare applied for a building permit at 100 W.Cemetery Rd. Motion Beer,2d Scott to
approve the permit submitted. Ayes Beer, Scott, Stockton. Shakespeare abstained,
Frank Scott, Prairie Roadbuilders,presented the Council a contract for the upcoming season for
Street repairs. Motion Boer, 2"d Shakespeare to approve the contract.MC.
Library:Discussion was on the budget for F[Y 2000-2001.The board discussed the cuts that the
city will make,and that they will have to use the reserve that has been put in savings and CD's.The council
explained that it was necessary to cut back on everything to help pay the costs of the new Water and Sewer
Project. It is the intent of the Council that this will be only a ternporary situation.It is the hope of the
Council that in 18 months to 24 months things could return to normal.Cheryl Scott will attend the Library
Board meetings to have better communications between the Council and Library Board.
Brian Stallman, representing the Fire Department,explained the new truck should be in sometime:
in March. Bill Barn,and Doug Exline have achieved their EMT status.The Open House will be the last
wcck in April.

FR I RFR'R FIRE UEPRRTMENT

1999 was a very busy year for the Fairfax Fire Dept.
The addition to the existing fire station was completed. The
extra room was needed for quite some time and is now well.
appreciated. The fire dept. also responded to 133 calls - 42
fire calls, 41 medical calls, 25 auto accidents and 24 miscellan-
eous calls that include storm watch, airport mutual aid, and
mutual aid to surrounding communities. RIl of these assign-.
Invents were completed without injuries or loss of life to our
firefighters.
In 1999 we also added four new members to our depart-
ment; Matt Meyers, Brad Meyers, Ran Kosmach and Dan
Zamastil. These new firefighters already involved in their
Firefighter l training aregoing to be a yreat asset to the de-
partment. We also had a retirement at the end of the year.
Jerry Zenisek, after 25 years of service, is retiring. The past
and present members want to thank you, Jerry, for all you
have done for your community.
Now that the year 2000 is here- the New Millennium, we
are planning ahead for the future. R new pumper that was
ordered in 1998 will be in service this spring. This new truck
will help us to better serve the people of our communities in
your time of need. Other goals include more training - faster
and safer ways to find and rescue victims in smoke-filled
areas. Our main goal for 2000 is to have again NO INJURIES
OR LOSS OF LIFE TO OUR FIREFIGHTERS.
An open house is planned for Rpril and Fire Prevention
Open House will be in October. The dates and agendas for
these euent&will be posted in upcoming newletters.
Fire Chief Mike Sankot and all of the Fairfax Fire
Department members would like to thank the citizens of
Fairfax, Walford, and surrounding areas for your generous
support in 1999.
