The City has awarded the waste hauling contract to Waste
Management, There have been a few changes .. . residents are allowed
to set out the first 34 gallon container (maximum 40 lbs) free —
without a garbage tag. Additional waste containers must have a tag a
fixed. The tags will cost $1,25.
Special points of interest: Yard waste will be picked up on Tuesdays on a "weekly" basis from
April — October. The weekly service will begin with a July 2nd pick-up.
• New Garbage Contract yard waste must be placed in yard waste paper bags or plastic
• City Wide Cleanup Days containers (Maximum 40 lbs).
• Memorial Day Services
The monthly service fee on your utility bill will remain the sande at

2002 Q.T.S. Transplant Games
Team Iowa is a group of organ transplant recipients who are raising money to participate in the 2002
U.S. Transplant Games to be held at Disney World, Wide World of Sports Complex in Florida. The
games are held every 2 years with participants from every state. These games are held to prang
awareness to organ and tissue donation, as well as to prove that organ transplants do save lives.
Our goal is to hopefully raise $45,000 dollars and be able to send at least 20 transplant recipients to
the gashes to compete in athletic events against other transplant recipients from around the nation.
This is a 5-day event with various Olympic-style competitions such as Trach and Field, Tennis,
Racquetball, Golf, Basketball, Swimmin& Biking and Volleyball.
This event is the largest gathering of transplant recipients in the world. Over 1700 participated in the.
2000 &,ones and we are hoping for a bigger turn out in 2002. It is a great way to participate in events
with people in the same situation and a great way to prove to people that transplantation does work and
you can get a second chance at life.
We hope you will want to support our team. By helping us and having our athletes compete, you are
helping our cause,while at the same time helping to bring awareness to Organ & Tissue Donation.

THE CITY OF FAIRFAX CELEBRATES THE 10"ANNUAL
FAIRFAX USA DAA'
The tenth annual Fairfax,USA Day, (Independence Day Celebration,) is slated for Saturday, June 29'4,2001
Fairfax.USA Day started in the summer of 1992 and involves the entire Fairf6x community and the community of
Watford. It is certainly a slice of"Americana"and is a community event platvred around our terrific volunteer fire
department's annual fireworks.
The principal players in USA Day are many:the faith communities of Fairfax and Watford;the Fairfax American
Legion and Legion Auxiliary;the Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department and the City of Fairfax. The 247H Iowa Vol.
Inf.Reg.-Co. G,the local Masonic Lodge,local farmers,the local banks and various area merchants and farmers are
also primary contributors to this event.
All events are intended to promote family values and family fun without undue;expense. The parade,with in excess
of sixty entrants and lots of candy and giveaways,starts at 11:30am. This year's theme for the parade is"FAIRFAX
I-10ME SWEET HOME". There's a yearly kid's carnival, ice cream social and luncheon, Free fire truck rides, a
helicopter visit and plenty of action onthe ball diatna,otnds. The cornerstone of the day's events is an outdoor
Ecumenical liturgy service held at 6:00pnn in the,churchyard at St. Patrick's in Fairfax. The service is non-
denominational and has featured local talent and contemporary music, The barbecue is fired up during the service
and the air fills with the smell of tendertoins on the grill.It has been followed annually by a"Concert under the
stars"sponsored by Fairfax State Savings Bank. Geoff Moore will be in concert this year! The grand finale is the
Fairfax Volunteer Fire Department fire-works.
The 2002 USA Day schedule is still a work in process,however here's the current update. The city of Fairfax will be
contacted to sponsor one attraction.Local Merchants are being asked to provide three attractions at the Kids
Carnival and to assist with other obligations. While the Big Swing Ride is not available,The Waterworks has
committed to providing another large attraction at the carnival this year. (We may have a full-size Ferris wheel!)
The Knights of Columbus are being asked to inan the bingo tent again this year.T,he Fairfax Variety Show returns at
3:00pm at the Legion hall. Entrants may contact Maureen Smith at 846-2469. Come-on and share your, talent! The
American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary are on board providing breakfast at the Legion from 7:00 to
11:00am and tenderloins during the concert next to the church between 5:30 and 7:30pm The Masonic lodge is
gearing up to once again have a food stand.Local Churches are preparing for the ice cream social, luncheons and
liturgy services. The Cowboys will perform at 12:15 at the Star Bar. Fairfax State Savings Bank will once again
sponsor the"Concert Under The Stars",'This year's concert is titled"Family and Faith"and will feature recent
winner of a coveted"Dove"Award; singer,songwriter and acoustical guitarist Geoff Moore. The day is scheduled
to end with the Fireworks Spectacular.
The complete schedule of events will be mailed to all box-holders in Fairfax,Watford,Norway and Amana during,
or before the first week of June.A schedule will also appear in the Penny Saver on Wednesday, June27th,2002.
There truly is something for all ages, With continuing support, sunshine and fun,the tenth Fairfax USA Day
promises to be the best yet.
