The members of the Fairfax Fire Department would like to say "thank you" and "farewell" to Gary
` Stockton, Gary is retiring from the fire department after 35 years of service to his fire district. The next
time you see Gary,please thank him for all his years of service.
Welcome back,Aaron Bullockt Aaron had just finished his six month probation on the fire department
when he joined the National Guard and left for six months of boot camp. It's good to have you back,
Special points of interest: Aaron. We would also like to take a moment and remember one of our firefighters,Marcus Bumps„who is
with the 101st Airborne in Afghanistan. Our thoughts are with him for a safe tour of duty.

help finish the day's celebration with fireworks at the Fairfax ballpark that evening. Every year we try to

Again this year,the fire department is requesting no personal fireworks on the grounds. This helps to
keep all of us safe so no one gets accidentally burned or injured.

Fairfax Garbage Facts
Beginning July 2, 2002, garbage, recycling, and yard waste coWction services will change
slightly.
W Unit based pricing or "tag system" for garbage collection will change to allow
one "free" container each week. Additional containers will require a $1.25 tag
available at City Hall, Time Waterworks, and Fairfax HandiMart.
Collection of recyclables will remain the same — see reverse for information.
Collection of yard waste will change to weekly from, April I — October 31.
All materials will be collected on Tuesdays. If a holiday falls on a Monday or Tuesday,
collection will be Wednesday, dace materials at the curb by 6 AM each Tuesday. The hauler
will not pick tip improperly prepared materials. Contact the hauler for missed pick-ups or
other service questions, Waste Management of Iowa, 800-542-8392. ,
How.Do Z Prepare My Garbage?
8y 5 AM each Tuesday, place all garbage in either:
One 35-gallon
metal or plastic OR One 3()-35 gallon
garbage can, plastic garbage bag.
weight limit: 40 pounds
No tag is necessary for the first 35-gallon garbage container.
» Smaller wastebasket liners 13-gallon bags or grocery bags) should be placed together in
ONE LAPGEP, garbage ran or bag.
Do NOT overfill, your garbage must fit within the 35-gallon can and not exceed 40
pounds.

How Do 11 Prepare My Yard Waste?
Yard waste will be collected seasonally each Tuesday beginning April I through October 31,
Weekly service starts July 21 2002,
• Place loose leaves, grass clippings and other yard debris into a container(s) marked "Y"or kraft
bags.
Do not exceed 40 pounds in each container and do NOT use plastic bags.
► Brush must be bundled and tied with biodegradable twine or cord (no
wire or nylon cord), into bundles no larger than 2 ft. in diameter by 3 ft. SEEM,
long.
Single branches must be less than 5 inches in diameter and 3 ft. long.
Smaller branches must be bundled and tied with
biodegradable twine or cord no wire or nylon cord),
into bundles no larger than 2 ft. in diameter by 3 ft. N

How Do I Prepare My Recy,clables?
Place recyclable material inside green box and set out on Tuesdays for collection.

Unbroken clear, brown, and green glass will be accepted. Separate glass
bottles or jars in a plastic container or paper bag. Set the container or
bag beside the green box.

Place smaller cardboard, such as pizza 'boxes, into.
green box. Consolidate large corrugated cardboard into a box or flatten
and tie into maximum 2' x 2' x 3' bundles. String or tape may be used
