RECOLLECTIONS OF THE PAST Viaduct in Fairfax, 1A UNDER CONSTRUCTION This series of photographs shows the survey and construction crews working on the viaduct over the Chicago and Northwestern railroad tracks (now the Union Pacific), Work on the viaduct began in 1.954 and completed the same year. The highway was originally Iowa 148 and was changed to Iowa 149 in 1935. In 1985, the highway was designated US 151. Paving of the highway commenced from the south from Walford in 1933 and in 1935 it was completed to Cedar Rapids, The date of construction of the old iron bridge is unknown. In 1926, it was moved to Old Bridge Road (2 1/2 miles east of Fairfax) when a new iron bridge was constructed. The house shown in the photo was reconstructed from and old barn by Ed,Turner and was home to the William.
