Kelly's term expired on June 30. Mayor Rabe appointed Roger Abel to serve on the Fairfax Library Board of Trustees during the City Council meeting on July 8, 2014. Steve Scott discussed their plans. Dan Swartzendruber, Linn County Planning and Zoning Manager, discussed Linn County and IDOT's request to close the intersection of Southview Road and Highway 151. Linn County requires a business to have access to a hard surfaced road. The Fairfax City Council strongly voiced their opposition to closing this intersection. He believes that the required wa- ;,, terway has been filled in, which contributed to the flooding of his business. Deanna Heintz, owner of Fairfax Storage, stated that they had 12 inches of water in their office. Mayor Rabe called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM. Council members present: JoAnn Beer, Bernie Frieden, $7 per ticket OR $5 for 6 tickets Travis Otto, Marc Magers, and Marianne Wainwright. The Sheriff s Department was asked to patrol Fairfax State Savings Bank West Cemetery Road and Stallman Drive to watch for speeding and vehicles too heavy to cross the bridge on West Cemetery Road. They have had a lot of calls. He also reported that the maintenance department has been swamped with flood issues. She asked why there aren't flowers in the north planter. Lynn Miller will be planting different plants in the fall. The utility billing financials were ready, but none of the other reports. Bridges were washed out, businesses, homes, and trees were damaged, and a life was lost. The Fairfax Fire and Rescue, city staff, IDOT staff, and elected officials have been kept busy responding to the many issues. The City of Fairfax worked to keep the water and sewer systems working properly, organized volunteers to fill Prairie Creek Veterinary Clinic sandbags, repaired our bridge and opened it to local traffic with a 5 ton weight limit, hired a flagging company to enforce the weight limit during the detour, arranged to have flood damaged items col- lected at a dumpster and removed, arranged for curbside pickup of storm damage yard waste, and ""�" contacted the IDOT as well as Linn County and State of Iowa elected officials to help get the IDOT's 135 80th St et bridge repaired as soon as possible.
